Cecil Gentry: A strategic, multidisciplinary Production Designer with an eye for detail, authenticity and geometry. Cecil is known for his stylized sets and sharp attention to production value. With a nod to his background in architecture, business management, interior design and furniture design, Cecil has the perfect mix of talents. Based in LA, and having worked throughout the U.S., his knack for putting together professional art department crews is second nature. “My mission as Production Designer is to tell the story from a visual perspective, presenting the full picture, by supporting the narrative.”

Cecil’s work can be seen in the memorable film SWIMMING WITH SHARKS, starring Kevin Spacey. Variety says, “Lensing, Production Design, Editing and Music are excellent.” Sharks won the NY Film Critics Circle Award and the Seattle International Film Festival Award and was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. A Netflix Original, IMPERIAL DREAMS won the Audience Award in the Best of The Next Competition at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. Cecil’s work was also reviewed by Variety in the feature film, ANYTHING BUT LOVE – “Production Design successfully fudge the oblique time frame while making the temporal limbo look vaguely inhabited.” Born and raised in Washington DC, Cecil feels more akin the New York where he spent his college years. His road to Production kicked off after he worked at BBDO NY and later moved to Los Angeles, pursuing Production Design full time. Upon moving to LA, Cecil considered pursuing an MFA at AFI where he was fortunate enough to meet Robert Boyle (Alfred Hitchcock’s Art Director). “Robert became my mentor, which has undoubtedly influenced my design style.” The mystique and allure of the film noir style is noticeable throughout Cecil’s work. I am an avid shutterbug and I love the art of Design and Construction.
